The option I will be doing for my final essay is Option 3: A Slave's Life. In the book it talks about a girl and her sister who are slave’s and have lost their mother. When their mother died they were supposed to be released and no longer be slaves. But I will be talking about the slave's life and where they lived and the different types of work and owner's different slaves would have. A life of a slave is very tough and very horrible. Some slaves have to work on big farms, some have to work on small farms and some have to work in the city. All of those are tough and the owners are very terrible. There is the highest work for a slave a lowest work for the slave and many other different types of work. There are many different types of living, owners, and work for slaves. A lot of it is very tough for the slaves. Some of the work isn't hard it's just the owners they have that make it terrible. First type of living is living on the Plantation. A plantation is just areas of a lot of country. It’s harder because they have to work a lot outside and in the sun and the plantation owners are terrible. But the plantation type of living is very easy to escape but, it's hard to live since it’s out in the country. In the book it states, “He grabbed my arm and pulled me roughly to my feet. I told you to move. snarlled Mr. Robert.” This shows that the plantation are very rough and to care and they will do anything for you to listen. The second type of living is the city life. With the city life most of the owners don’t own farms. Most of the owners were rich since they were living in the city, the slaves worked …show more content…
I might want to read more from this author. I think that slavery is a bad thing and shouldn't happen again. But if I were a slave i’d want to live in the city life because that's the highest quality of living unlike the small farm which is the lowest quality of living for slaves. So that is what I think of a slave's

Fredrick tries to show the contrast between the slaves who worked in the field and those who served in the house. He said, while those who worked in the field were barely provided for, the inmates of the mansion are literally arrayed “in purple and fine linen”(323). The servants living in the mansion were sort of a “ black aristocracy”(324) carefully selected for their faithfulness and with special regard for their “personal appearance, their graceful agility and captivating address”(324). Their duties included fanning guests and predicting wants. For this, they were better cared for than the slave who toiled fields daily receiving proper food, clothing and to an extent education.…

The chapter indicates that a form of slavery is still present in the county. The blacks have jobs as nannies, maids, and doing yard work. Once slavery was abolished whites found ways around it; paying blacks a minimum amount to continue doing the same work. The author chooses to discuss the history of whites and blacks in different sections of the chapter because they still live in different sections of the county.…

Since reading, I have learned that I never truly understood the harsh impact of slavery. The amount of pain, tolerance and degradation that slaves had to endure is disgusting. And what I feel is the worst of it all, is how incredibly dependent the slaves had to be to their slave-owners and vice versa. I couldn’t imagine having to be considered property, abused, and then be dependent on my abuser. That’s no way to live and it’s a shame that it will forever be a part of our history and unfortunately our present and future.…

Slaves were considered a major part of everyday lives in America during the 1800’s. Slaves were used for labor and personal use by slave masters. Southerners argued that black people, like children, were incompetent of caring for themselves and that slavery was a generous and well needed institution that kept them fed, clothed, and occupied (Civil War Trust 2014). The lifestyles of slaves in the early 1800’s created hardship for some and a regular life for others. The narratives of George Johnson and Aunt Harriet Smith will provide evidence that many African Americans were slaves, in which their experiences explains the similarities and difference each individual encountered.…

In the Autobiography of a Slave, Juan Francisco Manzano (1797-1854), a former mulatto slave, captures the unjust and horrific events of Cuban slavery during the nineteenth century. Cuba needed a large slave population to work on the islands various sugar mills and plantations to maintain its economic status. As a child, Manzano avoided the typical life of a slave labor because of the Marchioness Justiz de Santa Ana. She allowed to lead the life of a young intellectual, which caused him to feel a strong connection to Cuba’s white dominate population/ In 1809, his mistress died and the young boy began to experience the harsh reality of slavery that forever changed his perception of life.…

Slavery in America was a very cruel form of work, in which many did not have the option but to work as slaves, for example Frederick Douglas, who was born to Harriet Bailey (a former slave), did not get that option, although he was born to a “white man” who was whispered to be his to be his master, (Narrative pg. 20) by law Douglas had to follow the condition of his mother who was a previous slave (Narrative pg. 21). Douglas starts off doing simpler work because of his young age, but as he grows older , he is forced to do more difficult and brutal work. Douglas also grows wiser and plans his successful escape to New York, which would occur “on the third day of September, 1838” (Narrative pg. 112). In the following paragraphs I will explain…

During this time the slaves wouldn’t be required to do any work other than the basic duties, such as feeding the animals. This was a time for slaves to relax and actually enjoy life for the little bit of time they are allowed to each year. An example about the way of life of a slave that could be learned from this novel is when Douglass describes his mother’s death and the emotions he felt from it. Douglass explained that it felt as if a stranger had died when his mother passed. Many slaves didn’t have close family connections like Douglass.…

Depending on where the slaves and servants lived made them have different types of jobs they may have. Those whom lived in the Southern region would normally harvest tobacco, while in northern areas they would harvest rice. Once the indentured servants had been freed they began to write about their experience they would compare their timed served as “slave” or “sent to hoe tobacco plants from dawn to dusk”. First, I think it is important to examine the historical context surrounding this novel. The book takes place in 1902, a little more than 80 years after the abolishment of slavery, but when sharecropping, which was arguably a new form of slavery, was very prevalent. African Americans still did not have basic rights that they were entitled to, and many were destitute and at the mercy of the same government who mistreated them and their ancestors.…

The most saddening issue with this part of history is that these enslaved women were forced into these types of sexual labor because of their physical structure. The curves of their bodies deemed them to these helpless positions. Worst of all labor laws manipulated themselves to coerce reproductive and productive labor. So, it was the job of these women to resist and act against the brutality. However, it was very scary for these enslaved to act against the law.…
