For each critique, each of the moderators had a different way they carried themselves. There questionnaire varied as well as their follow ups to the responses of the participants. To start for the first moderator Sarah, I felt that going first was unbelievably challenging. The fact of having to conduct this focus group with no prior experience, as well as not being able to base hers off of a previous moderator is very difficult. Just by going first it showed she had a lot of key characteristics you need to have to be an effective moderator by stepping up and being courageous to conduct this first out of everybody.
For Sarah’s focus group I feel that her opening question was extremely effective, having each participant elaborate on their craziest story in the dorms was very strong as it kept the mood light and allowed for significant interaction based on each person’s story. This not only helped Sarah, but the participants as they are new to this as well. This definitely could be because we watched two previous ones and knew what to expect. I feel that we really engaged because the topic was a great one to talk about amongst fellow college students. The way Andie asked her questions really allowed the group to be just as effective as the moderator. The general follow up questions weren’t really needed as much just because the initial questions were so strong. Giving credit to the other focus group I feel they had generally a little more serious of topics, but this one was enjoyable to be a part of.
