Because of the close relationship in a friendship the two friends involved make sacrifices for one another without even realizing it .George and Lennie’s friendship is something that is indeed intimate.. It is the closeness between the friends which leads to them knowing everything about their friend and wanting to protect them from harm.The friends cherish the relationship they have and the intimacy that they have with their friend makes them desire to protect it. For instance, in the mid-exposition of the novel we see the jerkline skinner Slim comment on this. “ Slim [...] ‘Funny how you an’ him string along together.”( Steinbeck 39). With attention to the fact that Slim’s word is law due to his level of authority he is saying this in the sense that not that many people are that close to the point that they would travel together but because of George and Lennie’s childhood friendship, they stick with each other to the point where they travel together. George and Lennie have been together, so they have done a lot of things together and this makes them bond.In light of the fact that Slim says that they are very close(with attention to the fact that his word is law) friendship is very much
