Analysis Of Observation Of Elmdale Elementary Classroom

I recently observed two elementary school classrooms. At Elmdale Elementary, I observed Mrs. Earp’s first grade class and at George Elementary, I observed Mrs. Clay’s fifth grade class. There were many similarities found in classroom management, however, each teacher possessed different teaching methods. Between both observations, I was introduced to several effective teaching skills, as well as methods that were shown to be ineffective. At Elmdale Elementary, I observed Mrs. Earp’s first grade class. Her classroom was well decorated, as well as well organized. She began class by assigning individual math warm-ups and then going over them with the class. Then she proceeded to conduct a group counting exercise, as the students began to participate, she rewarded them with stickers. Class ended with group reading assignments. However, when students began to get disruptive, Mrs. Earp handled the situation poorly in my opinion. Instead of kindly redirecting their attention, she would often raise her voice and she tended to single out one particular …show more content…
Mrs. Earp and Mrs. Clay’s classrooms were well organized for the most part and were both nicely decorated, providing students with a positive learning environment. Both teachers maintained control of the classroom, however, Mrs. Clay did this while keeping a positive attitude and Mrs. Earp tended to raise her voice and single out students. However, there were several teaching methods I admired from both teachers. Mrs. Earp promoted classroom participation by handing out stickers to students engaging in the activity, causing other students to participate as well. Mrs. Clay encouraged students to work on their assignments by providing an incentive that upon completion, students were allowed to play on their computers.
