Analysis Of Objectivist, By Ayn Rand

The purpose of this commentary is to recognize the superiority of mankind, and the lunar landing as a fruition of the greatness. Rand, the writer of this commentary, is the founder of objectivism, the belief that mankind is capable of being self-sustainable without the aid of others(i.g. nature). While the subject is the lunar landing, Rand also wants to advocate her beliefs. Thus, throughout the text, she stresses the importance that it is humans that made this possible, and that this symbolized another instance in which man is able to conquer nature while incorporating the details of the landing. Although Rand gets automatic ethos by being the founder of the the ideology and publication, Objectivist, that this article is published on,

Prompt #1 - Point of View In the novel, Anthem, the author wrote in first person major which provided many merits in the development of the novel. Using the diary as a medium helped develop an understanding of how Equality 7-2521’s life was like and how he changed and grew throughout the novel. At first, Equality 7-2521 did not feel proud of what he was doing until the end of the novel where he found pride in his individualism.…

In the first five chapters of the novel Obasan, there was only a slight sense of negativeness, and in chapter 6 to 10, it becomes clear. There is a stronger sense of negativeness when Naomi expresses her emotions for the first time such as anger, hatred, frustration, and discomfort. Naomi reveals what her family experienced in the past, and this information certainly explains the dark, and delicate atmosphere from the previous chapters. In chapter 7, Naomi finds a parcel Aunt Emily has sent to her, and inside of the parcel, there are several packages of documents. What those documents from the parcel contain are unimaginable; they are the absolute evidence of the terrible mistreatments of the Canadian Government that Naomi’s family, and the…

Morality Arthur Paliden once said, “Morality is doing what is right without the threat of divine retribution nor the possibility of divine reward.” These wise words were proven to be true in the novel Anthem. At the beginning, Equality 7-2521 often struggled with the strict rules of what was deemed evil or good; It was a constant torture for him. Once he has escaped, he begins to ponder about his place in the world. For once in his life he desired to know if society was right, if their morals was the only ones that existed.…

In Russ Shafer-Landau’s text, he discusses Ethical Objectivism, revealing that moral ethics are true simply by definition. He also addresses objections to Ethical Objectivism, one of which is J.L. Mackie’s Error Theory. The Error Theory maintains that since there are so many disagreements about ethics, there is no way to prove that moral ethics are true, and thus moral ethics cannot simply be true by definition as Shafer-Landau and his Ethical Objectivism theory claims they are. Mackie agrees with Objectivists about the “normativity” of ethics, however, he is adamant that there are no moral truths, and to support this claim, he uses the Argument from Relativity and the Argument from Strangeness.…

Ayn Rand had written a story called Anthem as her way to warn that depending on others will be our downfall, but I disagree. Her ethical egoism outlooks on life is what drives her to believe that man should be self reliant, using others makes you a “looter,” and accusing conservatives of being, “Futile, impotent, and culturally dead,” (Ayn Rand’s Long Journey to the Heart of American Politics, paragraph 7). This idea is, to me, flawed because this country and it’s developments have come from sharing ideas.…

The narrator’s description of the garden is a representation of mankind. Chance’s garden and his care for it is, in my interpretation, God or someone who cares for us. Helping us grow, and strive to the best we can be. When we are sick they give us medicine when we are in pain they heal us, and we are down they encourage us, just like chance did this with the plants. From the beginning to end he cared from the garden just like God or our parents or loved ones do.…

With a story like “Men on the moon” by Simon Ortiz, finding clarity can be hard. The main theme can be jumbled up within the story confusing language, although that could be the point of the story. It seems that Ortiz has used this style to convey a level of understanding within the characters towards the reader. Each character deals with the moon landing in a different way and with a different level of comprehension. Although in the story the moon landing is the main focus, I perceived it to represent the outside world.…

Kennedy approached the podium on September 12th, 1962 at Rice University in Houston, Texas to inspire his audience of scientists, researchers and professors, while acknowledging he was talking to America as a whole. Kennedy composed a moving speech to inspire America, in the context of “The decision to go to the moon.” This speech utilized rhetorical strategies such as alliteration, metaphors, and rhetorical questions to influence the American public and others listening to instill the same desire that Kennedy had to accomplish the lofty goal of landing on the moon before the decade ran out. Will Durant, an American writer, historian, and philosopher, once said, “Every science begins as philosophy and ends as art.” Ayn Rand uses science and reasoning as the basis for her own belief system that she created called Objectivism; she uses her philosophy to create works of literature such as Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead that have long stood the test of time. In The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand uses pivotal points throughout the novel to illustrate Objectivism. The first major theme in The Fountainhead is the importance of the individual.…

A collectivist society seeks to control one's individual independence by forcing everyone to be equal to each other in all aspects. In Ayn Rand’s novella Anthem, Rand uses Equality’s sense of morality to depict how individuality has more significance than the collectivism displayed in the society he was born into. In this society, it is portrayed as where one has to lower their level of intelligence and potential in order to meet the standards the government holds. Equality struggles with accepting that he is different than the others that are seen in his world as ideal. As the story progresses, Equality’s guilt-ridden tone of his own individual traits shifts into something more self-aware.…
