In “A Twist of Fate”, the author communicates her experience of being gay and trying to get acceptance from others by getting a snake which symbolized her trying to overcome her fears which concluded with her admitting her attraction towards women. In “Alone at the Movies”, the author can accept reality and the death of her mother by the world of cinema he is going to use to survive. However, in “Swerve” the author is not fully capable of accepting herself and portrays her struggle with her partner and the incapability of swerving an obstacle which symbolized her personal state. However, the child was prone to growing up in bad conditions and possible disabilities and paralyzed from her waist down with a spina bifida. At the end of the story, a doctor discovered that everything was a false alarm Natalie. As we read what the narrator had to go through, we see a sense of openness, bonding, acceptance, and vulnerability as a woman and as a mother. The struggle and true love a mother lives is inexplicable. The narrator mentions “I lean down and breathe in her breath, which now smells of bubble-gum toothpaste and the dinner I cooked for her while she sat in her highchair singing to the dog”, demonstrating that her daughter is now fully recovered and that she is living an enjoyable life despite of the difficult stages in her life. The fine details the author provides, are details only a loving mother would remember. Despite of adopting a child, a woman can love unconditionally, observing that this experience shaped the narrator as it was the first time she was experiencing motherhood.
