O Brother Where Art Thou In Homer's Odyssey

O Brother Where Art Thou, is the comedic version of Homer’s Greek tragedy the Odyssey, The Odyssey tells the trials and tribulations of a Greek hero who was coming home from a long war that lasted ten years. The name of the war that lasted those long dreaded years was called, the “Trojan War”. “The Trojan War”, was an epic war that lasted ten years between two great nations, the Greeks and the Trojans. The war was started when Paris the son of Troy stolen Helen of Sparta away from her husband, Menelaus, the king of Sparta. After she was taken, Agamemnon took this as an opportunity to take his massive army and to conquer Troy and its’ Allies territory. Unlike Odysseus, Everett did not go and fought a ten-year war. His story begins a few thousand years later during the 1920’s and when the stock market crash. Everett, was an Alabama family man, who was caught practicing law without a license and was sentenced to ten years in prison for breaking the law. A couple years later after his sentencing, Everett received a letter from his wife Penny saying “I’m getting married and is divorcing you and is taking the kids away from you.” After, receiving that later he devised a plan for to break out of prison and to get his family back, but just like Odysseus, Everett also had to go through trials and tribulation to get home as well. So after, comparing these two characters’ story and background, there does seems to be some similarity and parallels between the two except that Odysseus is a war hero who is trying to return home and Everett is a convict who is trying to get home. Both men have admirable intentions to return to their formal lives, however though they have to suffer pain, lost and suffering along their way back home.
