Jed Baker No More Meltdowns Analysis

Jed Baker in “No More Meltdowns” makes one thing clear, and that is meltdowns will happen in the classroom and at home as well. Jed Baker not only teaches the reader how to manage meltdowns, but he also explains how to prevent the meltdown from happening. Jed says that there are four steps to managing and preventing meltdowns, number one is “manage [your] own expectations of our children so we can control our temper, create a sense of competence in [your] children, and avoid constant power struggles. Number two states “learning strategies to calm a meltdown in the moment.” Number three is “Understand why the meltdown occurs.” Lastly number four states “create plans to prevent future meltdowns.” Baker also talks about the reasons that some kids have meltdowns. Some of the reasons have meltdowns is because of a disability or they don’t …show more content…
But since reading No More Meltdowns I see that I was wrong. There are many things a teacher can do to prevent, help, and react to a child and their problem behavior. No More Meltdowns has also taught me that maintaining discipline is important. Baker talks about keeping consistent consequences and rules. He says that if a parent or educator does not have consistent rules and consequences, then the child will more likely to have meltdowns when the rules are enforced. When rules and consequences are only sometimes enforced the child has control over the parents. Baker also talks about making sure that there aren’t power struggles in the house or at school. When working with children it is important to keep a solid ground with kids. When parents or educators allow other children to manipulate the adult’s rules then there will be a power struggle between the adults and the children.
