Notably, Vandana Shiva in her book has a very specific view of how humans should live in the world. Shiva believes that humans can survive in fossil-free villages where they depend on what the environment provides them and not what they need. Rather than reaping all of mother nature’s gifts to humans, Shiva states, “...[humans] will leave ecological space for other species, for all people and future generations of humans”. Mankind has lost its motivation to be better. It is so busy thinking of the now that it has forgotten about the future, people who must solve the pasts problems. Shiva wants humans to accept their wrongdoings and make a change rather than waiting for someone to take a stand. Her vision is to see the various communities of people spread across the globe living together harmoniously with simple pleasures. In one hand, New York City aligns with Shiva’s ideals by containing local foods that are healthier and take up less energy to transport to reach individuals. Across the new york boroughs, there are many green markets that offer freshly grown local foods. A good number of individuals ride their bicycles and abstain from taking elevators, taxis, and trains in order to improve their health and help the environment. Moreover, few individuals have moved away from the plastic bag and bring their own disposable bags to the supermarket. On the other hand, New York can be doing more than this in order to “Go Green”. Shiva’s main controversy is mankind's dependence on carbon emitting transportations. New York is a big contributor to fossil carbon which prevents it from transforming into small communities due to people’s lazy habit of choosing to ride a taxi and isolate themselves from others rather than get to know their neighbors and allow kids to play on the streets. The need to take automobiles increases people’s hustle and bustle and prevents them from living like their ancestors. The lifestyle that we enjoy makes the economy, government, and social life run. The earth will survive without human beings and if we cease to exist due to our wrong decisions the earth will continue to revolve. Both authors are yearning
