My Words Did Not Save Her Baby
MaryLynn Johnson, the writer of the article "My Words Did Not Save Her Baby", tells a heartfelt story of her speaking for what she believed in when her dear friend was truly considering abortion. "Most of us never make it beyond the safety of friends who readily agree with every statement we make." Johnson states. "We tend to stay in our distant and comfortable places, where it’s more convenient and less controversial — but every so often, we make the decision to move out of that space and engage someone on a personal level." As her friend begins to affirm that abortion was the best decision for the circumstance, MaryLynn felt helpless, defeated, and even a little responsible for not being able to change the outcome.
Though her speaking up about abortion didn’t turn out as she'd hope, she discovered that there were several ways we can fight for the sanctity of human life. Her first method was to pray. "The first thing we should do is cover the situation in prayer (Philippians 4:6). Pray for the mother. Pray that God would still work in her heart and intervene to protect the life of her child." Johnson explains. She states how abortion isn't just a one-time decision, it's a decision that can and will change a woman's life. The second method she discusses is to simply trust God. We never know what God has planned or how he wants things to workout. "We are called to be obedient in going where he leads, and to trust he will accomplish his purpose (Psalm 138:8).
