When my Granddad passed away I was shocked, at first I couldn 't believe that he had actually died. This was the first time that someone so close to me has passed away. I knew he was ill but I had just assumed that this day would never come. I used to think that my grandparents would be around forever but this just made me realise that it doesn 't work out like that. He finally died after his fight with terminal bowel cancer. In the end I think his whole body was just cancer. My family was devastated. When I found out that he had cancer in the first place, I didn 't think anything could be worse.

When the funeral finally came around, we sat at the front of the church. The coffin was taken in while the first psalm was being sung. I couldn 't look at it. Looking at it just made it feel real, that he was really gone. My sister who was bundling up all her emotions suddenly burst into tears. As his coffin was lowered into the ground my mum grabbed my arm and wouldn 't let go. I knew this was the final goodbye. This was the last time I would ever see him. My granddad that would drive me to school, the one that would fall asleep in the cinema, and the one that would always complain about the amount of toys we had. Even though he was gone he will be in our hearts forever.

Through all this I learnt that people grieve in different ways. After I found out what happened I couldn 't stop crying. After it I was in a daze just thinking about memories with him. My sister dealt with it by keeping herself busy. Just after finding out she went to girls brigade and then to school the next day. I couldn 't go.
