Moral sainthood seems to be something that should be an ambition for all people, however, the end result is not nearly as illustrious as it sounds. As Susan Wolf points out in Moral Saints, the result of moral sainthood is a life that is hardly worth living. She defines a moral saint as someone who spends their whole life dedicated to being the best and most moral person they can be. When it comes down to it, it is nearly impossible to find a reason good enough for anyone to live life in this way. The only reason would be that it brings a person joy, and nothing else does, which is a trait that seems to be impossible to find. One may not be a saint for living in this way, but it is still a very moral and virtuous way to live. The most moral way to live while being able to live normally is just to dedicate free time. Unlike the other method, one can still live their own life, while being moral. Instead of dedicating all of their time, a person can spend time on the weekends doing what a moral saint would. This certainly is not a ground breaking and crazy method to living a good life, it is just a reasonable alternate to being a moral saint. If one wants to live in this honorable way for God, they should just become really involved at church because all churches offer opportunities to help the less fortunate. It is preposterous for someone to ask a person to live the way as Wolf describes, even God would be asking too much of a person. Everyone has some kind of interest or hobby, and sacrificing all of that it too much. It is also asking someone to sacrifice the ability to have a family or friends, which is too big of a sacrifice. Plenty of people sacrifice their free time to be moral, and still get to live a normal life. For most people, this is still too much to ask, but that is ok because it is their life and nobody can tell someone how to spend their own time. People need at least a job or some kind of free time to live a comfortable life, and spending less time being moral would allow this.
