“Wake up! Wake up! Up you wake!” Mister Senor Love Daddy sets the tone of the movie right from the get-go as a narrative and sets his role as the narrator of the neighborhood. Spike Lee used an interesting technique where the narrator is an actual character that is a part of the neighborhood, but is still detached and almost a neutral viewer of the whole plot. Samuel L Jackson’s character literally watches the movie through his window and seems to be used as a way to smoothly transition through story arcs in the movie. The radio is the first thing we hear in the introductory scene and it really assembled the stage of the whole movie extremely well, shifting from the backgrounds of each of the main characters.
