Ethical Decisions
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing” (Theodore Roosevelt). From the day we were born, we have been faced with making decisions. We are all humans, we cannot always make the right decision in a given moment. Sometimes, one says or does the wrong thing so it will not affect one mentally, physically and/or emotionally. From the two texts, “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson and “Gentlemen Your Verdict” by Michael Bruce, the text that best demonstrated the theme of whether it is ever right to do the wrong thing for the right reason is, “Gentlemen Your Verdict” by Michael Bruce. This text best demonstrated the theme because it showed real life examples of person versus. self, person versus environment, and lastly, person versus society.
Do not let your emotions distract you from what needs to be done. Control your emotions, or your emotions will control you. In “Gentlemen Your Verdict” by Michael Bruce, commander Oram was faced with a person versus self issue when his ship began to sink. Ethical decisions are a process in which the decisions are made based off of one’s set values and/or principles. Depending upon what those are, it will affect the decisions that one is making. There is never a right or wrong decision, one should not fear of making the wrong one. However, when one does make a decision, make sure the decision that one takes, proves it to be the right
