Case Study: Just Mayo

Our great country, the United States of America, has prospered for hundreds of years because it has been built upon principles of honesty, integrity, and a desire to better the greater good. How will our society continue to function if it is infiltrated with lies, deceit, and deception? I refer to the case of Hampton Creek, and their product “Just Mayo.” To the average consumer, this product may seem to be another brand of mayonnaise, when in fact it is not. This is misleading to consumers. The government has regulations in place as to what can or cannot be called mayonnaise, but it is my belief that if America is to sustain its prosperity, these regulations should not be a requirement except in the most extreme of cases. Hampton Creek, just as any other company that produces a good or delivers a service, holds the responsibility to provide its customers with the goods or services advertised, and to do so in a safe and ethical …show more content…
They will do this out of a desire to protect the people they serve, with the expectation that this service will draw more customers to their products. The free market should be free to govern itself. If a producer is harming its customers, then rightfully legal action should be taken. The desire to avoid this should motivate companies to produce beneficial products for its consumers. I believe that we should not need to regulate the labels on food products, except in circumstances where immediate health risks are present, such as in the case of allergies. It is my expectation that most producers will label their products with the ingredients, so as to inform their customers as to what they are purchasing.
