At this job, I worked in an office, but also worked as a server at weddings every weekend, which is the part of my job there that I will be analyzing. If an article titled “Reshaping Maslow 's Hierarchy of Needs to Reflect Today 's Educational and Managerial Philosophies”, I found myself realizing that since this theory was written over fifty years ago, it may be a little hard to apply the stages to my own personal life. This article gives examples that are more applicable to the twenty first century, and revises some of Maslow’s needs so that they are more up to date and applicable to people my age (Kiel, 167). After reading scholarly journals, and reading so much about the different levels of needs, I found myself applying them to my own personal life and seeing how these needs were met within my own experience with this …show more content…
All of my basic needs were met above and beyond. Every shift we were given staff meal before an event. We also worked long shifts of about 10 hours setting up and tearing down events, so my paycheck was always a good sum of money which allowed me to support myself. The safety need was also very easy to identify with because safety was the number one thing that was stressed at my facility. Everyone always had to be wearing close toed shoes, and you were not allowed to carry more than four plates at a time. The affiliation need was easy for me to identify with because even though I was the “new girl”, I was able to develop relationships with my coworkers quickly because most of us were women in our twenties. I had to think a little bit about the esteem need, but I realized that my managers were always congratulating me on working so hard, and never complaining about being on my feet for so long. In an article titled “Testing Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: National Quality of Life Across Time” I found it easy to identify this journal back to my own sense of self esteem at my work place. The article discusses the quality of life within an organization, and how you can identify with how your quality of life is. I think this article was very applicable to the fourth need because your esteem within an organization can really help you identify with your quality of life within that organization
