Male and Female Genital Mutation/Circumcision This paper will be discussing two forms of circumcision. First I will be discussing Female Genital Mutation also known and Female Circumcision, which is the procedure that involves partial or complete removal of the external genitalia. It is the removal of all or part of the vulva and/ or clitoris. The justification within the boundaries of their cultural beliefs is considered to be a form of social desire in terminating or reducing feeling of sexual arousal in women, helping women resist “illicit” sexual acts. There is no health benefits from Female Circumcision it is basically damaging healthy female genitalia. It is estimated that 100-140 million woman in Africa have undergone Female Genital Mutation. This procedure is often done in Africa, some Middle East and Asian countries and increasing in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, The United States and Canada. Normally people wouldn’t think of a female getting circumcised, but the number is growing throughout these countries. Next I will be talking about Male Circumcision. Male circumcision has become a very routine procedure that doctors perform on new born babies every day. Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin, the tissue covering the head (glans) of the penis. It is an ancient practice that has its origin in religious rites. Today, many parents have their sons circumcised for religious or other reasons. Doctors and parents started seeing the benefits of having it done therefore making it more and more common. This is not something that has to be done and every parent has the right to choose to do it or not do it. There are three types of procedures that can be done. Female circumcision has no health benefits whatsoever and is basically done so the woman will stay pure and be more appealing to their partner. I find it very disturbing sad that these young girls have to go through such a traumatic thing not just as a baby, but all the way up until they are teens depending on when the family decides to do it. Male circumcision on the other hand actually has health benefits and can prevent a lot of things from happening. Males can still engage in a normal sex life and experience an orgasm unlike the females who are circumcised.
