Love By Raymond Craver Analysis

Things we talk about when we talk about love by Raymond Craver 1981, the story comes from Mr. Craver, while in his story when he has two couples drinking gin in the kitchen sitting at the table where it’s still day time in the sun is lighting up the room. While during their drinking their having a discussion on what it means to know and understand true love. Before you understand why the author would conjure up this short story one would have to understand a little of the author back ground story. Mr. Craver was born into a poverty-stricken family at the tail of Depression. The son of a violent alcoholic, he married at 19, started a series of meaninglessly jobs and his own career of 'full-time drinking as a serious pursuit ' following his father ways. A career that would eventually kill him. Constantly struggling to support his wife and family Carver enrolled in a writing program under author John Gardner in 1958 and he saw this as a turning point. What is love? Mel McGinnis who’s ironically a cardiologist, in the story he shows that he thinks he is an expert on the functions of love but also someone who doesn’t understand what love is. They each take turns on what love they been through and for Mel’s ex-wife who died he spent five years not moving on standing still with time constantly visiting her grave. For Terri which is the new wife of Mel, she explains that her previous love was tainted in toxic. She describes her ex-husband was violent and drunk and she conveyed that for him he loved her with all his might.
