I went to the Porterville Art Association which is a local non-profit organization in Porterville, CA that contains artwork from local artists whom most are high school students. There were several different art pieces that caught my attention; however, the one that stood out the most was “Grapes of Wrath,” by Lizbeth Andrade a high school student from Porterville. Lizbeth Andrade uses many different art techniques to give the meaning or message of her art work. Lizbeth Andrade uses water colors which are pigments suspended into water-soluble glue and ink a colored fluid to create her art piece. The art piece consists of animism because it uses nature as a spiritual force. The objects used in her art work are a spiritual force because when …show more content…
Even though the painting consists of local colors there is intensity which is brightness and dullness to the hue in the colors, Andrade uses the intensity to bring attention to each of the objects. I love the way Lizbeth Andrade uses value light and dark tones throughout the art piece because it makes each object look for realistic. Another great art technique that is used in the art piece is contouring, which is one of my favorite art techniques that is used not just in art work but even one can do with makeup. Contouring outlines a shape to make it stand out more and in this art piece there is a lot of contouring used to outline each object. Aside from contouring there is a lot of shading that is used beautifully and makes the contouring lines to stand out more. The cross hatching that Andrade uses is eye catching because it is done neatly and it is something I had not seen in art work before which is …show more content…
I feel that the artist wants us to see that nature consists of beautiful objects like the monarch butterflies, peacock birds, flowers, leaves, and fruits. When I see this piece of art I think of a peaceful setting full of nature and relaxation. In my opinion I think that is what Andrade wants one to think and feel when looking at her art piece and also to know that human nature is important and full of beautiful living things. Her focal point are the grapes and when I look at the grapes I think of the important of fruits and food have to humans, without it wouldn’t survive. She wants us to be more considerate of nature and the importance of all this objects in life. Without nature we would not be living because the grapes represent food which we cannot live without, and the butterfly and peacock feathers represent animals and insects which are a beauty of nature itself. The leaves, flowers, and trees are an essential resource that benefit well human being. They provide oxygen, water, medicine, habitat for the wildlife and help our

The four classic elements are all represented in this novel, the element of earth appears in the first section of Part Two. The statements “All the great armies of modern history passed this way and through this mud”(narration, p. 69) and “The ground is the colour of steel”(narration, p.69) directly give the readers a image of the muddy ground. The ground works as an image of hell or underworld, as described in section four of Part Two: “[Robert] saw that the whole field was filled with floating shapes. The only sounds were the sounds of feeding and of wings. And of rafts.…

In reference to Chapter 1, The Grape of Wrath by John Steinbeck I can feel and visualize the situation of the famers and their families. Their suffering and struggle living in a place full of dust. In the article John Steinbeck stated that "Men and women huddled in their houses, and they tied handkerchiefs over their nose when they went out and wore goggles to protect their eyes", in his quote it describe how difficult it was living in dry and dusty place were the only protection people can use is a handkerchief and goggles. I can describe that Chapter 1 discusses the sufferings of the people during that time especially when I saw the photos taken by Dorothea Lange. She was recognized as the greatest documentary photographer in America.…

Intercalary chapters are inserted between certain parts of the story to introduce a new topic. John Steinbeck includes an intercalary about every other chapter but only lasts a few pages. Hardly any of the chapters contain information valuable to continue the storyline and just provide a drawback on the reading of the book. The Grapes of Wrath written by John Steinbeck includes intercalary chapters which interrupts the storyline to give repetitive background information, reoccurring data on the time period, or to give details irrelevant to the setting which drags out the book. As a critic of most intercalary chapters, some of them affiliate with historical facts that enrich the book as a whole.…

In the novel Grapes of Wrath, the author, John Steinbeck, explores the idea of civilization and government as migrant families move westward to settle. Along with that, the essay “Civil Disobedience,” by Henry David Thoreau, discusses about government’s role and function. Both the novel and the essay reveal authors’ beliefs about government, although they do not always share same beliefs in the idea of government. Through their works, it is apparent that Steinbeck and Thoreau have both similar and different point of views on government.…

In The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck uses the unconventional, intercalary chapters in the structure of this novel. These intercalary chapters are a narrative technique in which Steinbeck informs the reader about the economic impact of the Great Depression upon the common farmers in the U.S. during that time. In chapter 11, Steinbeck uses the intercalary chapter technique to describe the incoming of the modern tractors and the effect this modernization had on the land the farmers had occupied. Steinbeck’s masterful use of syntax, diction and parallelism to create depressed, degenerating tone of human loss.…

Edward Hopper’s 1927 oil painting, Automat, shows a lone woman sitting in an automat and through Hopper’s use of color and geometric structure, he depicts the loneliness and despair of this woman. The main focus of the painting is a single woman sitting at a table gazing down at the table where her cup is at. The woman is dressed very nicely, she is wearing an emerald green coat with brown fur trim and a yellow cloche hat. The brim of her hat appears to have been pulled down, slightly covering her face, and she has on only one of her gloves.…

Also, the mixture of warm colors on top combined with primary and secondary colors give the painting a delicate effect particularly the three green brush strokes as it adds even more mystery to the painting. Furthermore, the diagonal lines that shape the floor and the barriers of the bridge and the curved lines on the water make a combination of energy and endlessness at the same time because the side of where the scared looking person is, looks completely different from where the water, which is what perhaps reflects the degree of anxiety that the scared looking person was suffering in that particular…
