Living Like A Weasel Analysis

Are many people doing what make them happy? And do they have the will to hold on to it even though they may face criticisms from society? Many individuals in today's society get judged, discriminated and criticised based on their passions or their lifestyle choices. Some individuals get knocked down from the hurtful words while others block them out and continue to live their passions. Two stories that help to deeply understand this concept are, “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou and “Living Like a Weasel” by Annie Dillard. Their profound essays communicate that even though individuals may acquire problems due to their life choices they should still reach for happiness, doing what makes them feel alive. Angeoul emphasise the importance of blocking out hate and living your own happiness even if others contest it, as she states “you may shoot me with your words you may cut me with your eyes you may kill me with your hatefulness but still like air i rise.” Angelou herself experienced the crueltness of society, however she didn't let those circumstances influence her success. Being the brave woman she is she responds did you want to see me broken? “Bowed head and lowered eyes shoulders falling down like I got Tea drops weekend but my Soulful cries.” Responding in a mythical manner she expresses that she was not going to be the mirror of the words they expressed her to be.
