UP, a movie created in 2009, inundates viewers, depicting the cycle of society throughout the entirety of life. Pete Docter, Bob Peterson, and Tom McCarthy wrote the story of Carl and Ellie, who take an adventure through life (Rivera, Docter, & Peterson, 2009).
After watching a movie about Charles Muntz, an “explorer,” Carl Fredricksen starts his own life adventure on the way home from the movie theater. Carl, a young lad uses his imagination to create his own adventures. On his way home he conquers “Pikes Peak,” the “Grand Canyon,” and even surmounts “Mt. It is important that children use their imagination when developing into their human selves. Sometimes, a person’s imagination gains them just as much success as their knowledge. “Imagination is considered the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses” (Watanabe-Crockett, 2016, para. 2). While Wantanabe-Crockett (2016) defines knowledge as, “Knowledge is about facts, information, and the skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject” (para. 3). Imagination allows everyone to go on an adventure of their own throughout any time in their life. Evident in little children through what they play, it is sometimes hard to see the imagination in older people and the elderly. It is important to keep the mind active throughout the lengthy duration of life. “In order to create imagined future events, the individual must be able to remember details of previously experienced ones extract various details and put them together to create an imaginary event” (Association for Psychological Science, 2008, para. 2). Therefore, children who had a more active imagination in their younger years will be more likely to remember and envision upcoming events. Evident in the movie UP, Ellie and Carl envisioned their house sitting right next to Paradise Falls and with Carl’s determination; he was able to make it happen. Society allows children to grow up become something they aspire to
