My group decided to do professional headshots for our leveraging micro funds challenge. It was of low cost to us, only needing a camera and a computer, and an in demand service that students need and are aware of. The first problem we had, happened before even the initial presentation, when one of our group members dropped the class. However, my group quickly picked up the slack and filled in all the missing pieces that our old group member was in charge of. Another problem that we ran into was the camera. We had a camera but it unfortunately got broken just before our event. One of my group member’s friends were kind enough to rent us his camera for the duration of the event. The largest problem occurred the day of the event when we realized that a UW group was hosting the same event, same time, same place and instead of charging $5 they were doing it for free. This was a large problem for us as they had a lot more reach so they would completely overshadow us. To avoid this problem, we decided to spread out our event over multiple days and change the price of our event. We decided to make the donation discretionary instead of the mandatory $5. This actually benefited us a lot, as it drove traffic to our event and we didn’t cap people’s generosity, which allowed us to get larger donations.
