He was left with the tough decision of playing college sports or taking on a head coaching job at only the age of 18. How many other people would leave behind their athletic career to help others? Lind graduated school from Valley High School in 2003, where he played basketball, ran track, and was on the swim team. He could have taken his athletics to the next level but was offered a head coaching job at club swim program. He knew that he wanted to teach and coach, and took the values he had

As an adult I still play competitively and for the last 15 years have coached at the University and High School levels and I have found that truly investing in the success of others is a daily necessity. Teamwork is vital and having a collective objective is the basis for being a Transformational Leader; motivating subordinates using the common goal through, encouragement, support and respect to achieve the desired result is the ultimate target. Coach of the Century Tom Landry once said, “A coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, and has you see what you don’t want to be, so you can be who you have always known what you can be.” Kevin Kanipe, “Coach Kevin”, is the most relevant man when you see that quote because he assists oh helping young athletic softball players, uses his spare time to coach, and helps getting these softball athletes getting recruited. When I first got introduced to Mr. Kanipe I was in ninth grade. I did not know of him but it made me wish I did a lot sooner. My former high school coach mentioned me to him so he can see what I was capable of.…

At some point in time in their development, most people encounter an adult figure, who instills a positive change in their lives. For me, that person was Cindy Scannella--my track and my cross country coach for my first two years of high school. With her unique approach to coaching, Coach Scannella not only gave me the confidence to flourish in the sport and lead my team, but she also gifted me with a love for running. This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Her presence in my life has truly altered my life for the better.…

Dedication is the one word that I can use to describe Jim Polite, my cross country and track and field coach my four years of high school. As I ran back to my car on Tuesday, while the rain was falling so hard that cars had to stop and pull-over to the side of the rode, I noticed one thing and that was that Polite was standing in the hard rain, still watching and making sure his athletes are performing well. This moment made me realizes that an interview was not going to satisfy what I needed to know about this man. So for the next few hours or so I stood by and observed what he was doing, saying, and how he was interacting with his athletes and coaches. Running was already something that was difficult for all the athletes, whether or not they were good or bad, and it wasn’t something that was easy to get into because it required a great amount of tolerance for pain.…
