Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez is an undocumented immigrant who has been deported from the United States five times. In the summer of 2016 Mr. Sanchez shot and killed thirty-two year old Kathryn Steinle who was walking on Pier 14 in San Francisco with her father. In early September her parents filed a claim against the city of San Francisco and its federal officials. Months before in March, San Francisco sheriff Ross Mirkarmi informed jail staff that they would no longer disclose information about illegal immigrants to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. Mr. Sanchez had been released from jail in April even though the ICE had planned to take him into custody to deport him.…

On August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking in the middle of the street when they were approached by a police officer by the name of Darren Wilson. With there being altered stories explaining what happened next rather than choosing one side of the story we can agree that an altercation occurred and it led to the unfortunate death of eighteen year old Michael Brown. Because of the differing stories and videos online, I will not focus on whether I feel like the killing of Michael Brown was justified, but whether the process to indict/or not to indict Officer Darren Wilson was justified and not flawed. Beginning as soon as you read the table of contents of the DOJ report on the Ferguson Police Department…

Haley stated she and her father became involved in a verbal argument which ensued for some time, before she told her…
In a school in Detroit a teacher by the name of Tiffani Eaton tried to stop a fight between two students by hitting both of them with a broom. Because of her actions the school fired her, the students were suspended. In my opinion her punishment was unjustified, although I can understand the other side of the coin. She did cause the students physically and mentally harm. As well as brook the schools policy by not getting security and hitting a student.…
Lyddie’s actions toward the trespassing bear revealed that she was independent, strong, and smart. Her position in the family is basically the mother because she takes care of the kids and her mother since she is not very mentally stable. The bear became the family’s “undoing” by sending her mother, Rachel, and Agnes away to her Aunt Clarissa’s because Lyddie’s mother thought the bear was a sign of the devil. Aunt Clarissa told Lyddie’s mother that when the end drew near, the devil would walk the earth so she went to Aunt Clarissa’s to be with her sister when the end comes.…

1944 was one of the most unforgettable years in history, families were separated and lives were lost, leaving one another and never seeing them again for the rest of their lives. Many lives were killed during the Holocaust especially ones who were putting there lives in front of their loved ones. As many were killed during these horrifying times many had helped one another to escape these Death/ Concentration Camps. One of the many people who had helped save children from the Holocaust was a young lady named Suzanne Spaak. This young lady left her family, risked hers and the children's lives and hid all of these Jews in a hospital willing to save these children's lives.…
Amy Tan uses the precious jewelry that loses value when the Chinese mothers pass it down to their American grown children to demonstrate that the mother’s hope and wisdom also possess no value for the child because it was molded by a different culture that does not fit in with their way of life. In an effort to help their children, the mothers only place a heavier burden on them to carry their Chinese culture while balancing it with their American lifestyle. Topic Sentence 1: The Chinese mothers pass down their jewelry when their children are in a predicament presented to them by their American life; however, the jewelry does not possess qualities the American grown children need and therefore the mothers cannot use it to help them.…
What is Erika Gregory’s main argument? What is the conflict that her argument is responding to? What does the way she establishes the context/issue suggest about her underlying assumptions about nuclear weapons? Nuclear weapons pose a threat to all life on the planet and future generations need to reduce the number of nuclear weapons to reduce the threat of nuclear war. The conflict is that although the cold war is over the threat of a nuclear attack occurring is still very possible and needs to be corrected.…
Bold is a word with many meanings and some people take bold actions in their life. Imagine moving to the middle of nowhere, to a no-man’s land. That’s what Benjamin Mulford of Minnesota did when he decided to create to Port Salerno. He took a bold step in creating what he called, “Utopia.” He made a place, where we today can go to enjoy seafood, and boat.…
ed he “would rather die a thousand deaths” than surrender to Grant (Winik 168). Plus, when you take into consideration that the Confederate president, Jefferson Davis, had already supported the idea of guerilla warfare, it is obvious that Alexander’s plan was a tempting option from Lee’s point of view. Even with all the benefits guerilla warfare would have had for Lee, he still decided against it, largely due to his sense of duty to the country. Lee was the hero of the Confederates, and had he accepted the idea of guerilla warfare, many others resisting the Union would have followed him.…
The system of slavery, which brutally exploited the labour of a large and primarily Black population, shaped the history of the United States of America for over four hundred years (Davis: African Slavery, Sept 28). A primary tactic that was implemented in the system was to eliminate any motive of forming black communities by discouraging family ties. Many slaves resorted to documenting and preserving these experiences of slave cruelty through slave narratives, a genre of literature similar to autobiographies. Slave narratives can be regarded as a source that appeals to collective humanity through the complicated and multilayered acts of resistance carried out by the protagonists against their masters. By using Harriet Jacobs’ narrative entitled…
That is true. That is what makes the sacrifice of one’s life so special. It is an ultimate act of selflessness. However, not anything is worth dying for. Because life is such a precious gift, it should only be given up when appropriate.…
