In John Updike’s, A&P, our narrator is named Sammy. The basic information we are given about Sammy is that he works in an A&P, he is nineteen, lives somewhere near Salem, and he is not very happy about himself. He looks down on himself during his narration.

I believe the narrator in Radioactive Red Caps is unreliable. I believe this because he gives us only his opinion that everything is changing. But in terms of anyone else’s opinion he frowns at them and acts as though the person who is giving the opinion is wrong. When Simple says that the bomb shelters won’t be for everyone, the narrator responds with, “”Absurd!” I said. “Bomb shelters will be for everyone””(211). This response says that the narrator believe that everything he says is the only truth that should be believed. This makes the narrator unreliable because he only believes himself and no one else.
