Its seen that the stereotype subtheme was used frequently throughout to song to highlight the image society views the black identity. For example, he uses this phrases “The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice/The blacker the berry, the bigger I shoot” throughout the whole song. The tone of this phrase was a low-deep voice and used pre-hook rhyme from the title of the song. The last line sanctifies the racial stereotypes towards the black identity being known for using guns. The following words listed are coding under the stereotypes subthemes. Lamar states a list of stereotypical features of African American; “nappy”, “round and wide” nose, and large testicles. He using these lyrical coded to present the common racial stereotypes are placed on black individuals in society. He makes it clear in the tone of voice how passionate and prideful is when he says “I'm a proud monkey”, he uses this to embrace the stereotypes of his black identity and by making it his own to empower himself.
