Just like Julian, Margery Kempe had her first vision, “…appeared to his creature, who had forsaken him, in likeness of a man, most seemly, most beautiful, and most amiable that ever might be seen with man’s eye, clad in mantle of purple silk…”(426), while she was resting in bed, she saw a figure that was right next to her. The figure was visual as someone who is very attracted to the eyes, and was a wearing purple silk, it describes the form of Jesus Christ. Like both Julian and Margery had visual of their lord Jesus Christ but had different type of visual, Julian visual was more into suffering because of the blood that was falling from Jesus Christ due to the thorns. According to Christine F. Cooper, she mentions about Margery wanted to communicate with the priest,“When she desire to speak and confess to a German priest who cannot understand English, Margery is not deterred. After thirteen days of prayers, the priest is able to understand Margery’s English (and she can understand him), although he can understand no one else’s English”(271), Margery Kempe was able to understand the German language and the priest could understand her, without her having any background knowledge of the language German, or the priest having any knowledge English. In conclusion, Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe had similarities of how the communicated with god, both had showings that were joy, but also suffering. Moreover, they reacted God’s communication differently, Julian of Norwich was more calm, and didn’t travel praying. In contrast Margery Kempe was very emotional, when she received her visuals, she weeped a lot and very loud, and begged her husband to let her travel, so she can pray and share information about her
