Jimmy Santiago Baca, What is Broken Is What God Blesses, is in a block type of paragraphs poem. The poem take place in the sand, in the mud on a farm, in prison, in human, foreclosed homes, ruined marriages, the ghettos, barrio sand, and trailer parks. The images he uses are lovers’ footprints, ten-year-old kid’s bare feet in the mud picking chili, and, impoverished dirt roads filled with cripples. One of the structures used by Baca is the lines break. In a mental state I see the poem-shattered wall that announces freedom to the world.
