This not only says that women have no superiority or control, but that men more often then not exhibit powerful dominance over them. Dominance can often show itself through violent actions. Take a look at the Glen Oaks ad that came out in the 1960 's. This ad was used to promote Glen Oaks $10 broomstick slacks for young men. Apparently that wasn 't the only draw to buy those pants. Depicted in the ad, is a young lady with only her undergarments on, looking weak and distressed, possibly in pain. Surrounding her are a group of men that are all touching her, as if fighting for her, and of course they 're all wearing their $10 Glen Oaks slacks. Underneath this picture it say, "Ring around Rosie. Or Carol. Or Eleanor, etc. But you can only play if your were broomstick slacks...To help make you a winner. But if you don 't want to play our way- take off our pants and go home". Men are dominating the young women in this picture. This exhibits a sense of power, control, and authority that men have over women. Also, Glen Oaks is not only promoting there cheap and durable slacks, but their "meta" ,message that they are trying to convey to the young men that are their audience is "buy our pants, get with any girl, and have sex with her even if she doesn 't want to. Do this a number of girls because you can. You 're in control". Summed up, do whatever is necessary to have sex. "Battery is the single greatest cause of injury to women in America" and if women are weak and defenseless as seen in this advertisement, then there is nothing to be done (Kilbourne 499). She is already under the control of a man, or rather the group of men that are surrounding and grabbing her. She is left without any help or way out of this dangerous situation and all the guy sees is that they "don 't really mean no when [she] says it, that [she is] only teasing
