Analysis Of James Dashner's Maze Runner And The Allegory Of The Cave

Plato has a deep understanding of human nature and perception. He uses his literary work the “Allegory of the Cave” to support his theory of forms. He argues that the material world, the world where we use our senses, is an unreliable way to view the world. Relying on your physical senses alone makes you blind. You are not allowing yourself to see the entire world if you only use your senses. The only way to see the true world is through abstract or philosophical thought he called ideas. Ideas represent the world more accurately than physical objects alone. Ideas are timeless and pure whereas physical objects are time-bound and have a limited existence (Richter 25). For example, every physical object on Earth such as a car is time-bound because at some point, it will break and rust until it finally vanishes from existence. However, he idea of …show more content…
Plato presents his philosophical ideas with cave men imprisoned and ignorant to the world and truth. Dashner presents the same thing as the teenagers have a difficult time choosing the correct path in order to beat the maze and achieve the absolute truth and knowledge. In the novel, a young man wakes up in an elevator with no recollection of his past, only his name which is Thomas. The same thing happened with the other teenagers living in the Glade, the center area of the Maze that has four walls that encases it and separated from the Maze. When they finally escape the Maze, they realize that their world was artificially constructed by a group of agents and scientists who were putting these teenagers through a trial (Dashner). These creators of the maze were using the teens as an experiment by trying to figure out what is was that gave the immunity from a brain disease called the Flare which killed half the world’s population and gain the knowledge of a

I think that the main points illustrated by Plato's Allegory of the Cave are that people only know what they experience and only choose to accept what they have experienced, people who have knowledge have a responsibility to share it and that ignorance is bliss. The men trapped in the cave demonstrate how people will only believe what they have experienced by shunning the man who tries to tell them of the outside world. They aren't willing to accept that there is more to life than the wall and shadows in front of them. Plato believes that even the world we live in may just be another wall that is blocking us from seeing the truth.…

This is a brief essay detailing the connection of a stand alone philosophical thought Allegory of the Cave; and a major 20th century young adult novel Fahrenheit 451. The purpose of this essay is to successfully show a connection between the both, most importantly a clear inspiration displayed in Fahrenheit 451. Briefly described, the idea of the philosophical thought is a group of prisoners in a cave who only the know the reflections on the walls of the cave created from outside objects passing by, this is their reality.…

In James Dashner’s novel, the Maze Runner, the main character Thomas arrives in the Glade through The Box knowing nothing about his past life except for his name. After coming out of the box Thomas could see that the Glade was a large square surrounded by tall walls covered in ivy and in the center of each wall there was a door, which leads into the dreaded Maze. Although Thomas had just arrived and knew nothing about about his new home, it became obvious that he was meant to go out into the Maze. As the days go on upon Thomas’s arrival stranger things keep happening in the Glade. In the Maze Runner it expresses a quest for knowledge and survival which can be seen when the girl arrives the day after Thomas does, when Thomas became the first…

The fictional story the Allegory of the Cave can be interpreted in many different ways in the modern world. The way which I will try to interpret the Allegory of the Cave is the following. The prisoners as the Greek intemperate are the iron man just as humanity in this generation. The puppeteers are the government. The shadows that the fire cast, which puppeteer's show in the walkway represents what the government wants to show the citizen or (the prisoners of society).…

Within this allegory, Plato presents us with a cave that contains a group of people that are chained it's wall for their whole lives. The way they were chained had them facing a blank wall, in which they were able to see shadows casted onto it due to a flame that would burn from behind them. Plato's Form Of Roundness

Take a property such as the roundness of the earth. If one were to separate that roundness from the other properties such as weight and color (and all other properties) and think only of the roundness, then one would be considering the form of roundness. Plato holds that properties such as this exist separately from the physical objects that participate in them (Banach, 1). He further holds that the world we experience through senses is actually alive, complete with soul as well as body, and has as its original (what the demiurge modeled it after) a “complex form or series of forms called ‘the intelligible Living Creature’(40).…

As far back as I can remember, reading has always been a tremendous part of my life. Growing up, my mother introduced reading as one of the most important skills I could learn. Throughout my childhood, my entire family constantly incorporated reading into my daily schedule by helping me complete word searches, reading books, or rehearsing the ABC’s. Every night before bed, my mother and I would read a page out of a children’s bible book called Blessings Every Day as opposed to the classic Green Eggs and Ham. Reading has taught me how to exercise my imagination, how to effectively communicate with others, and relieves my stress.…

The ancient Greek philosopher Plato had strong views on important topics in history. One of the more important views he had, he transcribed into his Allegory of the Cave. The Allegory of the Cave brings in many different processes that one must undertake in order to reach true enlightenment. Numerous people have conformed to the allegory, but one slave experienced a process in his attempt to learn to read and write that matched closely with what the allegory described. This person was Frederick Douglass, who wrote a short book about the trials he had to overcome in order to reach his education level.…
