How would you like to wrestle with God? I’m not talking about in a prayer meeting or in debate between what you know is right and what you prefer to do because it is easier in the moment but it is not as rewarding. The story we’re drawing from is a real wrestling match between a man called Jacob and God Almighty in the flesh. In this story, we find a man on the run from his past while trying to keep his eyes on his future. The name Jacob by definition means, “One who follows on another’s heels; supplanter”(biblestudytools.com1). In biblical culture and even in some cultures today, names actually meant something. Names were often given based off of what was foreseen by their parents. If they’re parents believed they would be rich and famous, they would name them a special name based off that belief.
