The book I read was Hole in My Life which is the autobiographical story of Jack Gantos during his earlier years. Born in 1951, he didn't have parental supervision so he was off doing his own thing. This is quite different from than other people's upbringings. Surviving by himself he learned many things about the real world. Born in the Virgin Island he returned to the states to finish high school, but unfortunately he didn't have any parents he could stay with so he was homeless for a short period of time, because he didn't take school seriously and partying habits took control over his life. Fortunately he found a job at local grocery store so he could afford a room at the King's Court motel where he stayed at for the rest of his senior year in high school. His friend came to his motel which his name was Tim, and when he came over they both started to use marijuana a lot. Tim even talked him into selling the drug so he could earn money for college, but after he gave his friend for his share of the drugs, Tim ditched Jack by himself. Feeling ripped off and frustrated, Jack ventured off to Florida, sometimes going by some famous writer's houses, hoping to be inspired. Later he found himself helping Rik, a customer who wished to have a box with a hidden bottom compartment shipped to New York. Through this meeting, Jack landed another job which was helping them to sail a ton of hash from the Virgin Islands to New york. His partner, Hamilton, was a really mean guy, and made uncomfortable company on the trip.
