Initially, the works of Interstate School Leadership Consortium Policy Standards were established for the preparation of leadership programs but have now been updated and are now used for effective leadership practice. These standards are gaining popularity among most of the United States schools and tens of thousands of principal candidates are taking the ISLLC exam. Also, the standards have received a recommendation from other organizations such as NASBE while other preparation programs are revising their curricula with the aim of aligning it to the ISLLC standards. For the purpose of better understanding of the ISLLC, there is an elaborate breakdown of the standards and the knowledge expected, the attitudes displayed after the achievement of the standard, and the performance expected of the administrator who meets them (Hanson, 2011).

This standard requires administrators to possess knowledge of new issues that affect the school community and the resources that the community uses to address those issues. To manage the community’s needs, administrators should possess knowledge of the conditions and the cultural values of the diverse school community. Further, they need to possess knowledge of community relations and the necessary models of school, government, community, family, and other levels of educational partnerships. In this regard, administrators will need to have values and commitment to diversity as an enriching ingredient to the school.
