Atticus Finch Reflection

The internship work this summer allowed me to be exposed to a rare opportunity. I was able to complete tasks and learn things that I wouldn’t have been able to do only after law school. Undergrad and law school are designed to explore the theoretical aspects law but, that pales in comparison to the real world. While I may have been out of my depths on occasions I completed every task I could to the best of my ability and, those tasks which unsolvable under my current knowledge base, I would defer to Nevada. The work was intense enough that I could learning everyday but, not so intense that I was lost in the work. The legal field is a high stress environment and the book that explored this environment was “In Search of Atticus Finch.” While the book was old in that it explored the situations of a 1990s trial lawyer; it was still useful as a comparison between the written work and the real world. The high stress nature of the situation cause the client to project their issues upon Nevada. As against the estate planning cases there are case hearings but, not as extensive as a standard trial attorney. The most important court appearance is the 341 hearing which is doesn’t even have a judge present. The tax clients involve meetings and negotiation with IRS agents. The tax and bankruptcy clients are more formal than the estate planning. Another issue arises when creditors begin to try to contact the client and they will in turn all the firm. Not every issue that a client calls about can be resolved but, that doesn’t stop clients from calling hoping that they will be resolved.
