The feelings this poem brought out in me were sad, curious, and scared. I felt sad because in the poem someone passed away. This is sad because the family suffered a loss and if I had lost a family member I would be very sad because they would have meant a lot to me. This poem made me curious because in the beginning the poem starts slowly and describes what is going on. I was wondering about what was going to happen next and where they were going. I also felt scared while reading this poem because I pictured them walking through the forest late at night when it was almost dark, and I felt like something bad might happen to them, for example, the mother could have gotten hurt. The layout puzzled me because lines 23-26 and 40-42 are indented on the page and I wondered why the write thought to do this and how it affected the poem. The grammar and punctuation in this poem is very strange because there are very few punctuation, such as commas, and periods. Also none of the words are capitalized. Lastly, the patterns puzzled me because there is no rhyming, metric, or pattern in the stanzas. This was confusing because the poem flows nicely despite there being no visible patterns.
