“If You Give A Mouse A Cookie”, growing up, I loved reading this book. I grew up in a morally upright home with educated parents. My family wanted me to love learning and made it fun. My mom helped me with my basic reading and writing skills. Downstairs in my house was a library. The library ranged from volume books to picture books. Almost every book on those shelves, I read or was read to. I believe that without having that library in my house, I would not have never developed the skills that I did to get to where I am now. I would always see my mom and older sister reading the “big books” and that’s what made me want to develop more so I could be like them. I would love to put my thoughts on paper and I still do. I had so much fun with writing, for example, I would write my own fairy tales when I was younger. I remember writing my own version of “The Three Little Pigs.” I loved to use my imagination and change the story, most often to a happier ending. In school, we would have journals and projects. In our journals, we would write about nonfiction personal events and elaborate on them. As I mentioned earlier, my favorite thing to write about was sharks. Not many people agree that it is because of all the technology that we have. In some ways, technology has taken over pen and paper. But what we forget is that we still need to know how to write and read! Education is changing so much and so many students are learning less. I think this is because everyone just relies on technology. Your brain does not stopping developing until your late 20s. Which means that we need skills to get our brains growing and increase our IQs. There are building processes which you follow to be literate, such as starting with the alphabet. From there on you build on words and grammar. You need all these steps to be literate which is why schools should be teaching more
