ABSTRACT: In the medieval ages Ibn Sina’s works contributed a lot in the advancement of philosophy. As part of his contribution to the theosophy, Ibn Sina wrote a lot including the doctrine of prophecy. In that work Avicenna gives a philosophical analysis of different aspects of prophethood. Sheikh A Rais as he was called presents a creditable account of the phenomenon of prophethood which could be seen in his few works. He explains into details the prophet’s ability to obtain and understand the truth. His work on this phenomenon makes it easier to understand the doctrine of prophethood and how those messengers of Allah differ from ordinary beings.

Some writers like Gutas (2014) and Afnan (1958) have opined that it is inspired by the works done before him like the ones done by Al farabi. However Ibn Sina is credited with his own philosophical prowess of bringing together their understanding and matching it with the Islamic understanding. People have understanding according to Quran and Hadith on what a prophet and prophethood are yet until the emergence of Ibn Sina there has not been a critical analysis of it in the philosophical realm. He did that so well even though some Islamic clergies like Ibn Taymiyya have spotted some issues which led to his branding as infidel who was so blindfolded by the Greek un-Islamic philosophy.
