The message that I did get while watching it, after already keeping in mind the curriculum we’ve been given in class to indentify certain “Isms” or ideologies. I do see Cinderella as a Blonde hair, blue eyed young woman, who at one time had wealth and love. Who naturally is orphaned because not all good things last forever, or the kind people who might have wealth, and who are charitable somehow loose everything and end up just like the people they help. Everything from Classism, sexism, and internalized privilege and Patriarchal. Classism because there’s a strong difference between the Step family and Cinderella and the King, which might I add she has prime view of the castle from the attic of her bedroom window. Sexism because not only is Cinderella forced to be a maid in her own house, but the King has commanded a ball in honor of the return of the price, so he can find a wife. All eligible maidens to attend. That’s sexist because it’s targeting one type and that’s single ladies who are of marrying age. Internalized privilege because the step family believe that they are amazing and that one of those sisters will “woo” the price and fall madly in love and inherit a kingdom. I would like to know why no one is addressing violent movies that children are watching and are becoming desensitized to violence, but we have time to pick apart a movie from 60 years ago that is a classic? I totally understand why we have to address the bias ideals from the past that is carried over to today and correct them because otherwise the situation will never get better. However, I feel that dissecting books and movies won’t change the way people feel. Maybe there needs to be better movies and better books out there that would really change someone’s
