Imagine seeing a parent try to make his or her teenager happy by giving him or her support and love. I Love Yous Are For White People by Lac Su, “Dear Mama” by 2Pac, and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls illustrate what parents need to do in order to make teenager’s lives happier. If parents understood that modern teens need support and love, then parents would be helping teenagers to achieve their happiness. Parents can give their own children support by motivating them when they're scared. In the memoir I Love Yous Are For White People by Lac Su, Su writes “...all my parents can talk about is school and today is my first day I'm terrified ma and pa tell me it's going to be great and I'm going to learn a lot” (46). 2Pac writes his song, “Dear Mama” to show that he never received love from his parents but eventually he forgave them. Furthermore, 2Pac writes, “No love from my daddy cause the coward wasn’t there he passed away and I didn’t cry cause my anger wouldn’t let me feel for a stranger...i hung around with the thugs and even though they sold drugs they showed a younger brother love.” This indicates that 2Pac never received loved from his father instead he got love by people who weren't related to him. This illustrates that if parents don't give their child love then other strangers can give them love which the results are teenagers creating a relationship with other people instead of family related. Jeanette Wall writes her memoir The glass castle to convey that when she was little her parents never gave her plenty of attention. Walls writes, “I could hear mom in the next room singing while she worked on her paintings...when I stood up and started stirring the hot dogs again I felt a blaze of heat on my right side I turned to see yellow-white flames make a ragged brown line up the pink fabric of my skirt and climbed my stomach...I screamed.” Wall indicates that when she little she used to do all adults stuff such as cooking because her parents never gave her attention.
