The ratio was found to be 2 moles of H2O for every 1 mole of CuCl2. A new chemical equation of could be written using this stoichiometric ratio. The actual hydration number also is 2 moles of H2O. The calculated absolute percent error was found to be zero since the calculated hydration number was the same as the actual hydration number. It was also found that some of the rehydrated sample could not be recovered because some of the rehydrated sample remained stuck to the filter paper and was unable to be measured in the mass of the rehydrated sample.…

The calibration curves were linear for concentrations between 15-150 µg/mL. The linearity of the calibration curves was evaluated by the values of the correlation coefficients (r2). The correlation coefficients were 0.999 for Lamivudine, 0.999 for Zidovudine and 0.999 for Nevirapine. The results of the linearity experiment are listed in…

Risperidone (RIS), an atypical neuroleptic drug, reported to have fewer adverse effects than traditional agents, is effective in psychoses, such as schizophrenia, and other psychiatric illnesses in adults and children, including pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), autism, and attention-deficit disorder (ADD) [1–3]. It acts primarily by selective antagonism of dopamine Type 2 (D2) and serotonin Type 2 (5HT2) receptors in the brain [4–6]. Apart from minor N-dealkylation, the major pathway of biotransformation of RIS is hydroxylation at the 9_ position on the pyrido-pyrimidone ring to 9-hyroxyrisperidone (9-OH-RIS), mediated by the liver enzyme, CYP2D6 [7]. Risperidone is a second-generation antipsychotic agent widely used in the treatment of schizophrenia.…

DNA evidence has become more advanced and accurate means of identification. Everyone has his or her own unique DNA and no two sets are alike. With modern advances small samples many years old can now be identified breathing new life in cold cases and in some cases set innocent men and women free by clearing their name (Dempsey & Forst, 2011). This has created a backlog of cases both old and new.…

In the second method it was 0.86 ppm and in the third 7.31 ppm. Comparing these data, we see that the concentrations using the different methods, do differ a lot from one another. One of the reasons for this huge difference, was the use of a serological pipette instead of volumetric pipettes. For all transfer of solutions where a pipette was needed, a serological pipette was used. Now this could be one of the main causes of error in the data, because a serological pipette is not accurate, however a volumetric pipette is.…

This resulted in a margin of error between trial #1’s experimentally obtained rate and trial #1’s predicted rate being 8.13%. The predicted rate was determined by using the corrected rate law, as well as the corrected average k constant, which is 3.76x10-5 1/sM. The formula used to find the percent error was . The overall percent error between the average predicted rate (calculated with the corrected k constants) and the experimentally obtained average rate, not just trial one’s results, was 2.4%. The percent error could have results from many sources of error. The times were all hand timed and sometimes it was difficult to tell when the iodine had completely neutralized so the times may be slightly off.…

Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an oxidoreductase found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. LDH catalyses the formation of lactate and NAD+ from pyruvate and NADH, during the last step of anaerobic glycolysis. The reaction is also catalysed in the other direction by LDH during the Cori cycle. This reaction can be assayed using spectrophotometric techniques; peak absorbance of NADH is at 340nm, but the peak absorbance of NAD+ is 259nm (Powers, et al., 2007). Enzyme assays are performed to measure the rate of an enzyme-catalysed reaction, known as the enzyme activity.…

Each acid-base titration used one solution to analyze another; it also involved the use of an indicator, which denoted the endpoint of the titration. The indicator used was phenolphthalein; it produced a pink hue when the titrations reached their endpoints – between pH 8 and pH 10.…
