In a lot of relationship, the man isn’t a good husband to his wife. A good husband is suppose to be caring, nice, loving, and supportive. In, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie’s Nanny makes her marry Logan when she isn’t in love. Janie meets someone else who’s name is Joe, and runs away with him. When Joe dies, she meets Tea Cake in the shop and then realizes what love is and how it feels to be treated good. Janie realizes that all men are different and some are better than others. Janie is with Logan, Joe, and Tea Cake in this novel, and even though each man has good and bad traits about him, Tea Cake is the most loving and caring husband. Tea Cake cares and loves Janie for who she is. Tea Cake feels bad for taking her out to the muck because a storm comes and they have a chance of dying. Tea Cake cares and loves Janie because he basically dies while saving her life. Tea Cake and Janie are in the muck when a hurricane comes and he asks her if she would rather be in her big fancy house, “Ah reckon you wish now you had of stayed in yo’ big house ‘way from such as dis, don’t yuh?” Janie replies, “Yeah, naw. People don’t die till dey time come nohow, don’t keer where you at. Ah’m wid mah husband in uh storm, dat’s all” (159). Tea Cake shows that he cares about how Janie feels and if she’s happy or not, by him asking Janie this. Janie loves Tea Cake and he is the best husband for her based on her response. If it had been Logan or Joe that took her to the muck in the storm, she wouldn’t want to be there with them. Also, Tea Cake shows that he cares about Janie because he ends up passing away while trying to save Janie’s life. Tea Cake saves Janie’s life because a rabid dog tries to attack her and Tea Cake attempts to kill the dog, but traps him and ends up getting bit on the cheek bone. Tea Cake ends up getting so sick that he attempts to kill Janie, but she shoots him first. Janie’s is devastated, “Janie held his head tightly to her breast and wept and thanked him wordlessly for giving her the chance for loving service” (184).
