Synthesis Essay Tackling Racial Injustice

Improved Essays
Prior to entering English 101, I thought my writing skills were where they needed to be. Over the time in this course, I realized that I was wrong. I usually sound too simple in my tone and stray from topic. The main focus in each of my essays was to stay organized and focused. My RBAA essay, “Tackling Racial Injustice,” argued that players in the National Football League (NFL) have the right to take a knee during the national anthem and nobody should disagree with their actions. In my Media Analysis essay, “Honesty is the Best Policy,” the main focus was to persuade my audience to live an honest life and quit judging people based on their appearance. My Synthesis essay, “,” analyzed two essays and found the link between good athletes and poor life choices.
Upon careful inspection of my RBAA essay I realized the information I included strayed from the topic of my entire essay. My essays was to speak on NFL athletes kneeling during the national anthem. I got very caught up in the concept of racial injustice and began to write about the history of racial injustice and oppression. This had little to do with NFL players taking a knee; so, I scaled back in my final draft and broke the paragraphs to only provide a brief summary of the history of racial injustice

To be honest, writing papers is not something I am very skilled at because I fail to organize my ideas correctly or stay on task. I need to continue to develop my organizational, transitional, and paper writing skills. I found that I enjoy writing about political issues or other things that are in present day society. For this reason, I enjoyed writing my RBAA essay most out of any other essay. For the most part, this course was enjoyable. I learned a lot of new writing techniques that I will get better at and I learned how to edit my papers and take constructive criticism. I will continue to improve and develop my writing

The Olympics are broadcasted worldwide, ensuring that the entire globe would be aware of the racial issues Americans were experiencing. The act targeted Americans, especially American officials, who the athletes believed could do more to help curtail racism and discrimination in the US. Looking at this photograph today is significant because of the apparent similarities between the protest of these athletes and that of Colin Kaepernick and other black Americans today. Although nearly fifty years have passed since this protest at the Olympics, this photograph makes clear that we still struggle with racial tensions and discrimination…

African Americans have a long and difficult history in the United States. They were once property that could be bought and sold. They once had separate water fountains, bathrooms, and schools than whites. They had to fight for their rights in America and even though they have as many rights as every other American under the letter of the law, there are areas in which they still have to deal with undo ridicule, harassment, and injustices in our society.…

The Civil Rights Movement, in particular, was an era of influential protests and activism for securing the equality and commensurateness of African Americans in society, and some its most eminent figures have been athletes who paved the way for the integration they not only hoped to enact in sports, but in society. Hence, sports have been greatly afflicted by the Civil Rights Movement, leading to the emergence of new figures who precipitated change in a once segregated nation, and one of the many influential sports legends that laid the first stone in the changes enacted during this movement, whom I deeply admire, was Jackie Robinson, whose actions later fueled the reform that has reverberated in even our present day. His athleticism and immense talent deserves not only mine, but a nation’s worth of respect, admiration, and veneration; carrying his legacy through the field, across the color barrier, and into the hearts and minds of the population that he led into a more integrated, accepting…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Hunter Depalma ECON 221 Butler February 13, 2015 Racism & Income Disparity: Income Effect Income disparity is an ongoing complication within the United States not only between men and women, but between races. Many people in our country are poor, and the improvement in their lives that the ending of income inequality can bring them is great. For the most part this shifts demand curves from the incomes increasing and decreasing, negatively and positively. Some argue that our society here in America is set up to where the lower working class cannot escape poverty. We have provisions and burdens in our economy that will keep regressing the lower class.…

Since the use of genetic data to define the validity of race erupted in the 1970’s, some scientists have addressed the notion that genetic variation by means of racial differences represents a form of racialization and therefore racism, in healthcare settings and within health spectrums in general. By using race as an indicator of genetic disparities we are acknowledging race as a biologically based enigma rather than a social construct. We allow discrimination to color a picture of embodied inequality among healthcare measures. Just as the anthropological definition of culture defines cultures as static entities defined by geographic boundaries, we cannot perceive race as a biological marker of genetic variation because it to is complex and static. Human biology, no matter what geographic location one hails from, is…

Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve.
