Robert Fitzgerald summarizes version of Homer’s epic myth, The Odyssey. The Odyssey follows a clever, but, selfish hero, Odysseus who left his home and family. In a 20-year struggle to return home with many challenges along the way. While Odysseus is returning, his wife and son are pushing out the horde of suitors competing for her hand and the throne of Ithaca. The Odyssey exhibit the 6 main Greek’s values: love for home and family, loyalty, cleverness, fate, kindness to strangers, and most importantly, respect for the gods. Odysseus is considered a hero because he is clever, loyalty his men, and express respect for the gods.
