There are so many factors surrounding someone's fortune. A poor person didn’t have to make a mistake. It could be a parent or their environment that forces them into homelessness. This memoir consisted of several stories of the youth struggling to find a home. In each of these stories, they were doomed from the very beginning, born into isolation and hopelessness. This book put an emphasis on the victimizing and innocence of the homeless.
At some point, they all found themselves at the Covenant House, the largest charity serving the homeless, trafficked, and runaway youth. As the homeless described their upbringing its evident that a lost childhood has painful consequences. Our childhood affects us emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
