I could see what my brother saw in him. He was cute in a plain kind of way. Short brown hair peeking out under his weird hat, sparkling hazel eyes, and a smile that could rival Frank Sinatra’s.

His eyes go past mine and I turn to see his little sister on the carousel, waving at us. We both wave back and I know the very first person that Holden will go to.

I roll my eyes and let go of his hand and chin. I lean down to ruffle his hair and turn around to walk away. I resist the urge to look at him over my shoulder and know that James would be proud. I hope Holden will turn out okay.
