Reuven experiences this conflict indirectly—as he helps Danny struggle through it. Almost like the novel, A Separate Piece ; the two boys grow within their world of minor and major conflicts , but stand up against all odds during the harsh time period . They , just like the related book above , are in a world of their own , seen as a bad match for each but overcome all odds and grow together as one unit. So many years of distance can kill a weak relationship or build a strong one.
