The first form of evidence presented consists of Clinton’s own words on the financial situation faced after the Clinton’s presidency was over; Napolitano accuses the former president and first lady of larceny from the federal government (2015). However, the author makes clear, the federal government never charged the Clinton’s for taking any items. In fact, the Clinton’s had actually been half of one million dollars in debt when they left the white house, but that did not include their real estate property or assets; only monetary assets (Greenberg, 2014). In as far as the stolen items, the Clintons believed the items had been personal gifts given to them during the presidency from various donors. Former President Bill Clinton’s financial disclosure information contained itemized lists of the furnishings and various items, along with notes and emails regarding the gifts according to the House of Representatives investigative report, Problems with the Presidential Gifts System (2002). Both the former president and first lady believed the items were gifts, and when questions were raised by the press, the Clinton’s returned the items in question, or paid for the items.
