”Just taking risks for risk's sake, that doesn't do it for me. I'm willing to take risks that I think are worth it, and I've worked so hard to make sure that I survive.” Chris Hadfield. This quote proves that people who take risks, only do it if it is worth it. Basically, they know the consequences and know that it is dangerous, but they still do it. They want to survive.

According to the text, it says”And they got one climber off, and they crashed attempting to rescue the second man.”(Heil, Lines 29-30) They didn’t even rescue the other climber so it wasn’t even worth it. The people rescuing the climber ended up dying so this means that there was no point in saving the climber because there would be even more deaths. According to the passage, it says”A rapidly lowering cloud ceiling and 40-mph winds made it tough for a Chinook helicopter from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to reach the climbers, but three were eventually lifted away at around 9 p.m, Bacher said. The fourth climber stayed on the mountain overnight with rescue rangers.”(Seattle Times, Lines 31-36) They didn’t even get a climber off of the mountain and only took three. They basically sacrificed the climber to save the others. The climber could die while staying with the ranger because of low oxygen or no food. Others may say that he might’ve volunteered to stay while the others go, but I argue that it still doesn’t change the fact that he could die rescuing the other

I didn't know a single thing about marching band or what it even entailed. I joined on a whim because my friends were doing it, and I wanted something to do that summer.…

I attended this co-curricular which presented Steve Trussel who is part of the Arizona Mining Association and the Arizona Rock Products Association. At the beginning of his speech, he gave a background of his life and experiences which included taking risks, setting goals and never giving up. Maia Szalavitz is a renowned American reporter who wrote a psychological article “Ten Ways We Get the Odds Wrong.” According to Szalavitz, “Some people have a very high tolerance for risk, while others are more cautious” (254). This leads to the term “risk thermostat”, which is the sensation that people experience by keeping a fixed level of risk and maintaining that level. The risk thermostat differs from one person to another. But as stated by Szalavitz, we are all inclined to maintain a steady level of risk.…

The culture of expressive individualism was sparked in the 1950’s as a contrast to the collective conformity of that era. Highly regulated and individually constraining individual sports forms were weakened for some people by the individualized nature of contemporary society. The 1960’s and 70’s produced a large amount of youth based alternative sports cultures that wanted to provide alternatives to traditional, highly regulated achievement based sports forms. In 1978 Bourdieu described “Californian sports” as being creative, athlete- centered, noncompetitive unregulated and an expression of youthful alternative physicality (Bourdieu 1978). These eras helped advance the creative, individual contemporary sporting subculture.…

If someone had fell even for a second they would be shot to death. If you would have helped the man get up you might have been shot as well. Putting your life and someone else’s life on the line is not worth risking. One death is better than two. Even though it is easier for people to climb Everest now than it was many years ago, people still have the possibility of dying. You have to wait for storms to abate, a possibility of getting high altitude cerebral edema/high altitude pulmonary edema, hypothermia, and other dangerous events. Even Sherpas are more in danger than they ever have been due to the many things they have to carry such as, bottled oxygen and medical supplies. Which can also add to the slovenly state of the camp sights, because each oxygen tank or other item could be left there when it is not needed. Sherpas do not take dexamethosane like the climbers do, and do not use as much bottled oxygen as they might.…

The two stories “Breaking through Uncertainty- welcoming adversity” and “Neighbours” are both stories about how big the benefits are when you take risks. The first short story is about how a skydiver must overcome his own uncertainty, to save himself from certain death. While the other story is still dramatic, just in a different tone; it's about a young woman, who has to decide whether or not a friendship is worth standing up for something that’s right. The protagonists in both stories, they have to take risks, and they’re both rewarded for taking those risks; on with his life, and the other with a stronger friendship. First, if a climber is in danger the rescue workers trying to save him or her will also be in danger. Nick Heil in a radio interview “ Helicopter Rescues Increasing on Everest” states, “The risks are certainly significant” (p24), when describing how a helicopter crash happened while saving climbers. In the article “Ranger Killed During Rescue of Climbers on Mount Rainier” a ranger, Nick Hall was killed trying to rescue two climbers that fell in a crevasse. This proves that when people make choices like to climb a mountain they are not only putting themselves at risk, but also the rescue workers that will try to save them. I know that if we didn't take risks our world would be safer, but the people that took a risk made history like Thomas Edison who made the first light bulb. It is better to take risks and make mistakes because you can learn from your mistakes, you can achieve more, and you can learn about what you like and dislike.
