Harry S. Truman was born on 1884, May 8, in a farm in Lamar, Missouri. In his early life, he worked on his family farm and did other work before he became a soldier. He started a program, called the Fair Deal, which provided jobs for everyone, and increased the minimum wage. He also extended price, housing and health controls. However, these programs were blocked in 1946. Truman started the Truman Doctrine in1947. This program was made to give Greece and Turkey military aid and protect them from attacks from communists. He also supported the Marshall Plan, which was to rebuild Europe from the World Wars. The main event of his second term was the threat brought from the communists. In 1949, Truman had supported the NATO, and in the same year, communists became more powerful after a revolution in China. In summer 1950, the communists in North Korea have invaded South Korea, Truman sent the US troops to Korea, and lead to a conflict. Douglas MacArthur immediately suggested Truman to attack the Chinese military bases, which they could use the nuclear bomb if they needed to. Truman didn’t agree with MacArthur, because he was worried that his plan will let the Soviet union join the war, which will make the war more serious, and it would become a nuclear war.
As a result, in 1951, April, Truman removed MacArthur from his position as general. The Americans weren’t happy with this action, and they asked congress to remove Truman from the office. The participation in the Korean war and the removal of MacArthur as general made Truman become very unpopular.
