In “Harrison Bergeron,” by Kurt Vonnegut, the society tries to create a utopia by making everyone equal with handicaps. However, individual beauty, talent, and knowledge are forbidden and controlled with these handicaps. The society contains no talent or knowledge. Vonnegut uses the exaggeration of the handicaps and laws to show readers how ridiculous our society has become with political correctness and how extreme sensitivity can lead to censorship.

In both books it shows throughout that the society's would be much better off if people were aware. In the story “Harrison Bergeron” the man Harrison Bergeron is able to stand up to the community by exposing the truth of the community. In the text it states, “‘Even as I stand here’ he bellowed, ‘crippled, hobbled, sickened - I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived! Now watch me become what I can become’” (Vonnequt). I believe the theme is equality is not possible. Because if you look at the story you see the government is inhibiting all the different things the people have, like strength, intelligence, beauty. If you noticed for these rules to be enforced there needs to be someone without the hindrance IE the handicapper general, so it's not equal then right? Even now as i think about it the other reason we will never be equal is free will. You know that little thing in the back of your head that says you know what i don't want to do this or i want to do that, that makes us all unique in our own special ways.…
